Dear Sherwood: "Eve Watson" is within ten to twelve thousand words of the finish, which at the rate I get to write will require four to five weeks. The story while not entirely up to the mark I aimed at is so close that I have a sense of scoring far better than in any previous work. There has been a feeling of the characters growing naturally -- developing themselves. You know what I mean -- and that is satisfying.
One thing is certain -- the criticism that runs against my previous stories, that is that they drag, or skirt the point, does not hold in this case. In fact the story has gone so fast that I may have to put a check-rein on it. I might almost say that this vital lovable Eve has almost gotten out of hand at one point and another.
