Dear Sherwood: You don't know what a lifesaver that money is. We were down to out last 30 dollars and half of that due on a grocery bill. The thought of money has been like a spectre hovering over my head. As a last resort I guess we could borrow from Mr. [Perry?]. He has been very nice and given us loads of things but somehow the thought of being absolutely dependent on him did things to me. I felt as if my independence would be gone. This money will take me to September when that mail elam? should come and then I will know just where I stand. Now I can paint this summer feeling free and as if I had a right to paint. Last Friday I was down to a little stream near here with a red bridge. John knows the place.
