in pencil in top margin Henderson, Welker [1983] [[IMAGE [upside down on duplicated page] snow scene of green street car and people walking in the snow]]

The picture on this card of the street car strikes a nostalgic chord for it reminds me of the Toonerville Trolleys that bounced and rattled over the brick streets of Lincoln in the hey day of the bourgeoisie. Lincoln had 4 street car lines in the good old days.

Dr Martel is till in the nursing home in Los Angeles. I keep in touch with him. He finds it difficult to move around for the Parkinson's disease has weakened him considerably. He would like to hear from you. Faye is O.K.
Did you read the article on Nelson Algren by Tom Carson in the Village Voice supplement of November 1983? It has some good insights into Algren's works. The last time I saw Nelson was some years ago when he delivered a lecture on Ernest Hemingway at the Oak Park High School. He was living in Paterson New Jersey at the time. Are you busy at writing? Let me hear from you. Here's a Yuletide toast.

Yours Welker [[in pencil [Henderson] ]]
