Dear Jack,

     I was very sorry to learn you were hospitalized but relieved to learn, from your sister, that is now going well and recovery is certain.   Several of my uncles have had your trouble and it is evidently most painful.  I suppose I have something to look forward to.
     Apparently we have had the same idea.   When I talked of an old house I was thinking of the Ferrill home and I find you have already visited it and looked it over with an eye toward restoration.  It could be done.
     I spoke of a [sic] article I had written and Caroline Hassberger showed an interest in it and I sent it to her to be considered by her printer.  So far no response.  I'll send you a copy as a Christmas card.
    The pace of my collecting has fallen off.  Partly I have had to make a living and partly I find I am now interested in finer things than I can find locally.  I wish I could take off and view the collection of your friend ?Miere?.  I saw an article about him with a picture last week.  Maybe you could prevail upon him to send me some items when he has duplication.   This would serve as salve until I can find an excuse to come north.
    I am having great fun picking up local history as I search around and with some success.  I have found that I can get access to old books when if I mentioned furniture or glass they would not allow
