Dear Jack,

Hoped the vino (as in veritas or felicitas)

was ok,though Najwa tells me you've sworn off the grape. She's shown me the first version of the transcript ,and I've told her to send it off to you as quickly as possible. Do you thunk The Foolkiller would publish it?

What's with the Ray-Salzman hassle? Why did Ray pull out?

And how is the autobiography coming along? Have you thought of having Unrest underlined republished?

Life here is snowbound. The temperature went down to minus 15

for a few days, but I hear you Missouri folks think that's Spring weather. Naturally, the university is falling apart; the recession (actually,it rates as a low-grade depression) hit us badly;the president quit; and finally, the governor is asking all state institutions to fold up for 30 days because there is an "energy"shortage (which means East Ohio Gas is manipulating the market). Right now,I've decided I've got to see if any other university has an opening for me.If you hear of anything, would you keep me in mind?

     Best wishes,and regards to Gladys.
                                                     Lew

P.S. Thanks for promoting me to "sage".

written in black inkP.P.S. Irv Friedman suggests/tells me that you had submitted a ms. in the 30's to the John Day Co. to win the proletarian fiction award. This true?
