Dear Jack -

I was distressed when I had your letter about the missing Anvil's and letters. If I had any

such in my possession you may be sure that I would turn them over to Wharton. I have neither Anvil's or letters.

A couple of weeks ago I was at Finch's one Sunday of Yennon?. He was going thru some of

his papers and came on three copies of the Anvil. We decided to go to Wharton's and took the Anvil's along for Wally. I also gave Wally some letters from Blake and asked him to send them to you.

At no time did I have the intention of embarrassing anyone. I can understand your concern in this

matter. Be assured that I did not have anything to do with the paper or magazines that are missing.
