2 in pencil [June 25]

Since returning to E. St. Louis from Miami I've had nothing but bum kicks. First, I didn't get the job at the track

that I had been promised. Worse than that some politicians went out of their way to see that I wasn't employed. Second: construction work has been miserably slow. I've been working about one day per week, just enough to disqualify me from unemployment compensation. I was very sensitive about owing money that I couldn't repay so I delayed writing until I could do so. I had a feeling that things would get better but they seem to get worse.

I have nothing but feelings of gratitude and friendship for you and would never deliberately do anything to harm you

in any way. If I can get in touch with Wally I'll have him confirm the Finch-Anvil thing. yrs. B.
