December 1975 Dear Jack and Gladys:
I have now reached the age when I realize that writing to old friends at infrequent intervals is like fishing: one never knows what goes on beneath the surface of the water. Anyway, I hope this finds you both well and as reasonably content as the times and circumstances permit. We get occasional snippets of information about you, Jack, in the book review pages of the papers. I retired early from my job last June - just couldn't put up with the meaninglessness of it any longer. Zena give up her educational consulting at the same time; and so now both of us are not employed, but we are by no means people of leisure. Zena is developing her long-dormant talent for painting and drawing in a very satisfactory way - purely amateur: she gives her work away to those who admire it. I am finishing up the manuscript of a technical book I have been plugging away at for the past two years. When that is done and disposed of, we plan to sell out up
