in pencil Lehmann-Chenneviere, Suzanne [no date] Paris. 4 square de Verdun (10*) Dear Jack, thanks for your good wishes and the same to you and Mrs Conroy. I was sorry to hear about your son Tom being separated from his wife - and little boy. You probably miss that child and the child will miss his father too. It's too bad!

You got it quite right about Sonia Raizics[?] I was somewhat abashed at her reasoning, thinking

that she probably was considered as a radical in the States. But something funny has happened. I saw her again, recently, since she has remained in Paris all this time. She invited me together with a group of American "exiles" in Paris, and all of them sang a quite different tune this time - this year - events seem to have taught them something. And I was quite satisfied for Sonia R.'s sake (who by the way got married in the meantime to some Italian whom I haven't had the opportunity to talk much to) You know, Jack, I am feeling rather uncomfortable in this world where my best American friends can't come to France.
