When earth-fading comforts are vanished, when all t. toil of man, for this world merely stands before them in t light of eternity: how empty does it appear. Then they see & feel that their highest unclear wish for t good of all generations of men is that they know God, & keep his commandts. But it may be (some will be ready to say, ask what are these things to us? We hope we have a good while to live as yet. But let us remember, this good while is a vapour. & is gone before we are aware. Soon we shall be in a state, to cease to go in or out: & quit t world forever
