Prof. Taylor, Dear Brother, You will have a wide field & an earnest welcome to our city. The opportunity for scoring a full day's work in every twenty-four hours will be afforded you. We are trying to solve the city problem of reaching the masses & while we have done a good deal, much remains to be done. We have kept ourselves clear of much? charity work (I speak of our [laity] Missionary Society) not that charity work should not be conducted in such a city but we have tried to do a different kind of labor, & as it seems to us, a far better. Our efforts as you doubtless know are directed to the organization & maintenance of Sunday-schools and churches. I have had some rather laughable experiences in trying to find people who have come to our
