Hillsdale, Michigan May 9th 1877. My Dear Grandma:
I was more blessed than I can tell you to receive a letter from you last week, and when I came to your name signed Elizabeth Everett, it seemed almost as though it was my own dear mother's signature. Everything is precious that reminds me of her and so your letter was doubly clear - You seem so very nice and dear to me as my mother's mother, and I always thought her very much like you. I would give a great deal to see you now and feel almost as thought I had my precious mother back.
in top margin: and one more room to clean but we shall finish all up this week - Our girl thinks of leaving us Saturday, but as Aunt Jennie said it is always darkest before the morning, and we shall be provided for in some way. This one hasn't had time to help us as much as I would have liked anyway. I mean to write again soon and hope to hear from Bemisez? before long. This letter for Aunt Jennie came inside one for me after she had left. Love to all and a triple share for yourself - Hattie
