1856? Cherlin.? Wednesday noon Dear Friend. It is now some time since I last wrote to you; it may therefore somewhat surprise you. at receiving this letter after such long silence. I received an unexpected visit from brother John, which was I can aprise? you highly agreeable. He remained but a short times he was on his way to Hardenburgh unclear and exnious to reach his Journey's end. During his stay, he frequently mentioned your name, as unclear with the story of his visit at Steuben. He showed me likewise Brother's? likeness, which I immediately recognize, and indeed I did wish if he had yours along, especially that one which he saw at your father's house. Your father's likeness, was in his trunk which had gone to Cincinnati. & I did not have the pleasure of seeing it. I was extremely sorry to learn that Ruth & Mary? are so unwell, but I hope that they will soon recover. It gave

me much pleasure to learn that Sarah is doing so well. It

is certainly inspiring that she should have recovered so well after, such, long illness. You have ah great reason to be thankful to God for his goodness towards her, in going her once more good health. Believe me that I could not hear ah this news from you, without calling to mind, the past. The past is no more - But - "It haunts me still, though many a year had fled Like some sweet melody"
