Somehow I am doubtful of my judgment in regard to my own pictures, especially since while selecting I was trying to think not only from the purely artistic, but also from the exhibition and sales, standpoints--which latter I am not too sure of. You might notice that I have sent very few recent things. This for several reasons. In the first place, because of various difficulties, economic and otherwise, my past year has been rather unproductive. Then the few good things I have done recently I felt were more suitable for two exhibitions (Salons of America and Whitney Studio Club) which I wish to take part in--and which also come in May. And finally I decided that even though they might not be better, at least my Chicago pictures would be more interesting to Chicago people than these others, which are mostly of distinctly New York subjects. I happen to be rather short of cash at the moment, so I told the packers to include their charge on the shipping bill to the Arts Club--but to send me a duplicate, so I can repay it to you later. Or in case of any sales at the exhibition, you could deduct the amount from what you would otherwise send me. In regard to the enclosed list of prices--tentative prices--I again would be grateful to submit it to your judgment.
