Dear Jack & Gladys -

    Hello - how is everyone? I hope

that Gladys is feeling much better than last time I heard from you folks.

  Everything is going along here

pretty well, tho I fear that I will never become adjusted to the weath er here. That ever-lasting , intense sun is murder to me. I miss the cool brisk days & the pretty Fall.

  Maybe you can answer this ques-

tion- what does Sooner mean & where did it originate? I know that you, Jack, wrote "The Sooner Hound Dog" - Merry Ann still has her copy you gave her on Green St. Carol & I were talking about "sooner" & I ask her what she thought & she, clown, said may- be in the Run for land in 1889, some got there sooner than others!!

 School will start here Aug 25 &

Aug 31st for college. Carol's Rosemary, 18, will start her 2nd year in college. Two younger children are still at home, Fran, Merry Ann's husband is still try- ingunderlined to teach in an all black high school in Chicago. Each summer he swears he will notunderlined go back in the fall, then
