Dear Jack & Gladys --

   What a pleasant sur

-prise in receivin the books - thank you so much. Before I saw your return address, I said "Some good friend has sent me some books" when my carrier handed them to me. Am just finishing H.G. Wells "The Invisible Man", and was wondering where my next reading mat- ter was coming from, as most of my friends have loaned me about all they have. If you wish these returned let me know.

     We had a thaw last Thursday,

breaking the 44 days run of never reaching 32 degrees. Since then it has not been so severe, the temperature was down to zero again last night, How are you two progressing with the metric system? I am trying to un- derstand it, but mathamatics not being my strong point, I cannot see that it is easier than our present system. If it is so good, how did the other countries get so smart before us?
