Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Sweet Briar, Virginia

Established in 1971, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts is the nation's largest year-round retreat for professional writers, composers, and visual artists. Located at Mt. San Angelo, a 450-acre estate adjacent to Sweet Briar College, the VCCA can accommodate 24 artist at a time. They come from all over America and abroad to work in uninterrupted seclusion in the Center's studios. The prodigious number of novels, stories, poems, paintings, sculptures, and musical compositions created at the VCCA each year are ample testimony of the value of such conditions for the creation of lasting works of art.
