Chicago, Feb 11, '72 Dear Jack:
Despite snow and cold weather, the one-night stand at the funeral parlor was quite well attended, and I saw people there I hadn't seen since Jack's death. I had been asked to be a speaker, which I was, seizing the opportunity to recall Old Man Sheridan, one of those incorruptible British labour types. He came from Rochdale, Lancashire, though the twins were born in Ballina, Co. Mayo., where their mother, a Ruane (well-known name in those parts), came from. I've visited the town, a market town, lively but drab as only Irish west coast towns can be I 'phoned Jerry Buckley's home, talked with his wife, who told me Jerry is now non compos mentis, though harmless. And Jerry trained lawyers much of his life, had a school where lawyers going up for bar examinatio [sic] were crammed. Jerry knew the Sheridans well, used to have a forum near the Marshall Field apts., where I went from time to time, and which you may have known - The Pindarians. Another lawyer by the name of Sharp helped Jerry there, and I know that Jerry, who was ^FAR from being an all-out radical, used the joint to give a bit of experience to embryo lawyers, and, of course, law professors used to bring students to B. H. Squares all over the USA. I first heard the Cosmic Kid at the Pindarians. And though Celia Healey was at our doings the other night, she escaped my knowledge at the time, however, I talked with her on the 'phone yesterday. She asked about you. She will always be an anomalous spinster type to me - remaining loyal, albeit not fanatic "RC", frequently attending radical-run meetings, etc. Articles such as the enclosed nearly always leave out more than they put in, but I think Jimmy's friends were made aware in some instances, people who mightn't have known of his death. His misery is finally over, though I must say he didn't appear to have had the great pain my wife suffered. Death certified as due to metastatic cancer. A underlined: do will be had at the home of Harry Sheridan, Jack's son, tomorrow, in Maywood, where Harry lives in a bungalow built by Old Man Sheridan, Jack and his uncle Mike.
Regards, Mead P.S. Stanley MacAuley & Carlos Cortez also spoke. A nice pagan affair,
