December 30, 1975 Dear Jack,

 Good to hear from you at year's end.  I must tell  you right away that my news are very very sad!
  My darling Phito died on August 13.  This has been the hardest year of my life.  He always liked you so much that I've felt all these years that I knew you well!  Phito had congestive heart failure.  I've had a hard time accepting this separation.  On November 20 I went to Port-au-Prince with Phito's ashes and on November 24 I laid them to rest in the Thoby family vault.  Came back on Dec. 2.
