Dear Mr. Conroy,

 I do hope you will forgive me, a complete stranger, writing you on a personal matter.
 My father, the late Eric Walrond, died recently, and among his personal effects

which were sent to myself and my sister, was a copy of your book, with an inscription by yourself, which suggested that you knew him well.

 For various family reasons, I did not know my father well, but am very anxious to learn

a good deal more about him, both for personal family purposes and also because some of my colleagues in the field of Caribbean literature have Note: letter does not continue.
