pencil note in top margin Koch, Ray and Chucky

July 17, 1986 Dear Doug (copy to Jack) or Dar Jack (copy to Doug)

Got both your letters. This is a little hurry note just to say we've had trouble finding another copy of the book. We want to take one to a friend in Shanghai who is teaching English there. Can you tell me a book store here who is surely handling it? If not could one of you get me a copy in time. We leave September 3rd. Maybe autographed!!! (I'm talking about WEED KING of course.

My brother spent another week with us - left Tuesday to go home to St. Joseph, Mo. It's in the bone marrow now (cancer) and he's offered no more hope. Goes down visibly by the day. So it's been a rather traumatic time for me.
Y'all can expect the annual letter in late October - this one on China.

Affectionately, Chucky

handwritten note at end of letter Jack - "Interesting" is the one word I would never use in reference to Weed King. 1st: It's a cop-out word meaning nothing. the kind every scribbler shuns. 2nd - The Weed King is in the highest class of writing. Down with "Interesting!" Ray
