Sir:

    I am in receipt of your report of the 8th instant enclosing the property return of Agent James Davis of the late Southern Apache Agency which was located upon what was known as the Hot Springs reservation, in New Mexico, wherein you recommend, in view of the fact that under date of 25th August last the reserv in question was restored to the public domain by an Executive order, that such of the personal property belonging to the Government as cannot be made available by Agent Godfroy of the Mescalero Apache Agency be disposed of at public auction etc. The property should be condemned by the findings of a board of survey convened by proper authority and said property so condemned should be sold at auction to the highest bidder and the proceeds of said sale, less expenses covered into the Treasury in accordance with the provisions of section 3618 of the Revised Statement.
