4 S. WHITELEY'S INSURANCE AGENCY. POST OFFICE BUILDING. TELEPHONE 168. Racine, Wis., ......188
During this year's canvass I advised Mr. Whiteley not to take any very public part on account of his official connection with our Business Men's Association of which he is Secretary: but he responded to every call- financially and otherwise- and did his full duty; contributing in many ways to our success. Such men as Judge William P. Lyon, Judge Charles E Dyer and Mr. John T. Fish will tell you that Mr. Whiteley is a man of rare ability and deserving of any position he may ask for; and every Republican in Racine, unbiased by self interest desires his success. Strange as it may seem this is the only position he has ever asked for on his own account. After thirty four years of constant and most valuable service, he thinks he is now entitled to it- and so do I- and I am sure that you will .In my judgement it would be a mistake to refuse him that which he desires as much as Melville Fuller desired to be Chief Justice. It is not a very big thing- but he has reasons for wanting just this position. I can assure you that his endorsements will be beyond all question- both as to volume and character- of the very best. Mr. Whiteley came to Racine from England a lad in 1842- but he is in the very prime of physical and mental vigor.
