course The Prayer meeting before the evening service was refreshing and I am thankful that I was present. My happiness however was somewhat marred by Mary's state of health. She does not look so well as she did when I saw her last over two weeks ago and I do not like the effects of her cold. Her voice is very weak and her face pale and haggered. She is I fear trifling with her health and not sufficiently conscious of her condition If she is not careful consumption will surely result. Oh! that I could look into her heart and see that all was right there for glory, in the love of Christ, and could feel assured that she was reconciled to God. I still think that she loves me, but is restrained by some fear - she acts so different towards me when in the presence of her brother-in-law than when we are together alone. Oh! Lord, thou knowest the heart, and thou knowest my prayers to thee in regard to her, and her deportment to me this evening seems to be in answer to those prayers, for it is what I asked thee for. If I understand this aright, Oh! Lord, may our next meeting be still more private, and may she be still more demonstrative, that I may fully know thy will as to my remain- ing in this city.
