But every thing should be made to tend toward the one point - Jesus Christ the Saviour of sinners -; their need of this Saviour, and the necessity of laying hold of the hope which is set before them in His Gospel immediately; concluding with a prayer to God to convince them of the truths contained in the lesson, and make them wise unto salvation. One thing I do not like at these meetings. Nearly all of the speakers indulge too much in self praise and are not sufficiently mindful that it is God that worketh in them to unclear to do of His own good pleasure. Most of their remarks could be made with fewer applications of the personal pronoun. How much more beautiful and impressive are words spoken in humility and how much more effectual are they in taking hold of the Christian heart.
