Sept 14th - In compliance with a telegram from Genl Augur Major Morris sent me on the 12th inst. to the camp of "Spotted Tail", across the north Platte to count the lodges and estimate the number of people and warriors. Found the most of the men and many of the women drunk, and very noisy. Went to the lodge of Spotted Tail and had quite a talk with some of them. They seem loath to leave their old haunts, but acquiese in the wishes of the whites, and say they believe that they think good for them when they wish them to go north to their reservation. My Co. is one of those designated to accompany the expedition. Sept 15th - Cos B. & K. from their stations up the RR arrive, making all the troops. Most of the officers have bought themselves ponies as Genl Bradley says they can ride.
