WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15,1865. Went on guard as officer of the day & guard; had charge of the picket & camp guard. The homes here will not compare with those north, but the shrubbery gives them an air of richness. THURSDAY 16 Went in ambulance with three gentlemen who came up the other day to the "Enoch Dean" which was lying about 6 miles down the island. It was a strange sight to see so many contrabands just landed with their '"household gods" lying around. FRIDAY 17 I hope the Regt will come back some time soon, as our ordnance Returns for 4th as 64 have not yet been made, and cannot be until they return. I apprehend our pay will be stoped therefor. Took a scout with 3 men to upper end of island. Saw nothing out of the way except some unclear
