THURSDAY 29 Went to Congress. The Bill for emancipation of slaves in Mo. was before the Senate. The Bill for raising negro troops was before the House. Heard speechs by Crittenden & Kelly. Just think of 2 Bills of such vital importance, & upon which hang the fate of the Union, being brought up in one day in both branches of Congress.
FRIDAY 30 Very muddy and slopy. The House did not adjourn its Wednesday's session until 5 A.M. of Thursday. Saulsburg of Del apologized yesterday for the course he took in the Senate on Wednesday. They are not going to push the motion for his expulsion at present.
