newspaper clipping: Rev. J.B. Blake, Pastor for Forty Years, Is Dead

 The Rev. James Vila Blake, 83 years old, a Unitarian

minister for forty years, died yesterday at his home, 122 Ashland Boulevard. He was pastor of the Third Unitarian church here for fifteen years and was head of the All Souls church in Evanston from 1892-1911. Mr. Blake graduated from Harvard in 1862 and then became secretary to the governor of Massachusetts. Later he went into the ministry. He leaves two daughters, Ruth Blake and Mrs. Rachel Mahoney, both of whom live in Mexico. A son, Clifton F. lives in Portland, O.

Dear Mrs. Walden,

 Probably you have heard that our friend is gone.
 It was a fight of many weeks, but was not known to be serious until too late. There

was an infection of the neck, eventuating in cancer. You will be glad to know the later weeks were practically free from pain, and that he kept all his vigorous faculties.

 The passing was peaceful and beautiful as befitted him.
