" . . . It seems to me that far more of the evils that we face have been fathered by good intentions than by people seeking to do harm or callous about consequences. Maybe what bites me is the large number of instances of the especially mean and malicious things that have been done all for high-sounding moral principles. My favorite text on ethics is Mark Twain's The Mysterious Stranger."
