Comparative facility. I refer to unclearcolony. [4 illegible words in pencil]

Above Alabama on this river is situated the new town of Magnolia, being the landing place for Fort Houston, which part of the country is rather a favorite spot with for many of the folk on the lower parts of the river, particularly as regards its salubrity.
The creeks between Alabama & Magnolia are Hurricane, Elk-hart & Box.
The town of Alabama is still in its infancy & to render it prosperous requires a larger population of planters; nevertheless, some cotton is grown about here and adjacent country; but, for farming and stock raising purposes higher up on the river is recommended. It may be stated that as yet two Steam boats kept continually running are not sufficient for the trade of the river, so that flat boats are obliged to be resorted to.
