The bride & bridegroom had ridden some 15 miles full tilt, the bride was deposited with a friend, the bridegroom posted off to the deputy County Clerk for a license which cost only 1 Dollar; & now behold them before or rather by the bedside of Judge K __ who is almost bedridden. A Certificate was handed to the Judge by the Deputy County Clerk presenting that she was over eighteen; she took the oath to that effect, when the Judge after examining the Marriage license asked them if they wished to be man & wife, & then after asking them this separately to which they nodded assent, the Judge concluded with "what God hath joined let no man put asunder" & they were married. In a few minutes the married & I hope happy pair mounted their horses & off they were to the log cabin of the bridegroom.
