 Courtship is carried on in the Woods  I suppose in about the same manner as any where else. This Truth on being accepted, is generally asserted  by his parents to erect a Log-house; the necessary furniture is obtained and other appurtenances belonging to domestic affairs, with sufficient stock &c for a commencement.
 We will suppose the marriage ceremony to be celebrated at the domicile of the bride. All the Neighbors round are invited at times of the number of a hundred persons.                              Early on the bridal morning the guests commence arriving & if there be no Minister in the vicinity, the Judge of the district performs this important ceremony.

 The females of the party are closeted with the bride until the appointed time, comforting and consoling her and arranging her bridal dress. The Neighbors congregate, when the bride is ushered in with the "Father" and Bridesmaids - followed by the 'Intended' - and his particular friends.
 The Marriage ceremony being performed, the feasting commences, & the one I was invited  to was a Temperance Wedding Party. * The tables groaned under Venison, Bears meat
