 The 'Village Doctor' in the U. States & Texas unites the characters of Physician, Surgeon, Apothecary &c- &c- &c, and has often to travel many many miles to meet their patients.

They are gentlemen of education & from their appearance & manners would seem to be suited to 'Town' rather than 'Country Practice'. This may be accounted for by their being no 'peasantry' but all over the Country a similarly educated & politiently? constituted people; a people who consider themselves second best to no nation upon earth. When the Doctor is sent for say 10 or 20 miles, off he goes with Saddlebags so constructed as to hold such Medicines he judges from reports the patient may require, & dispenses them after seeing the sick man. This year has given a good harvest to the Doctors, thus 'tis an M-word &"?. These charges will depend
