Cotton can be planted earlier by 2 or 3 weeks in Texas than in Mississippi. Corn is planted in Re?rs? about 3 or 4 feet apart & in rows. Two seeds are generally put into each hole. On Trinity last year 40 to 50 bushels of corn to the Acre. Cotton about 2000 lbs - but this is a high average for this County. Those fields near a Gin are often thined? with cotton seed to get it out of the way & it acts as a manure, but not absolutely regarded?.

 Much more planting particularly of cotton would go on if there was more 'fence' (hands), as it is many of the planters & farmers plant more than they can gather in or pick - which is blown about by the first norther, or nipped by the first frost.  X  Grain of all sorts rice also, thrive well and garden stuffs in abundance. And with care & attention orchards would  do very well
