A complete history of San Antonio from its foundation about 1716 or perhaps before that period up to the present time would indeed be interesting. x

 Another account says About 1730 & under the viceroyalty of the Marquis of Casafuerte, Sixteen families under the superintendency of the Conde de Bejar comprising fifty-five individuals  emigrants from the Canary islands, were brought to this place at a considerable expense to the Spanish government. The emigrants first settled at the head of the San Pedro creek about a mile W of the [crossed out: present] town, but soon took removed to the present site, naming it "La Villa de San Fernando, 'capitol de los Texas en el reyno de los Nuevas Filipinas" (Town of San Fernando, capitol of Texas in the Kingdom of the new Philipines.);  the Presideo Asiento or Military Station of the Alamo x on the other side of the river under the tutelary care of San Antonio de Austria.   The emigrants from the Canary islands were ennobled or made hidalgos, and much form was observed in their municipal arrangements; documents up to 1756  I have had the
