For years the parties in question had been at war, when after certain arrangements made between commissioners from either party it was concluded that the principal Comanche chiefs should assemble at the Mission of La Espada, a feast & presents should be given to them & a treaty of peace and perpetual friendship entered into.
On the day appointed two thousand troops were secreted in the Mission of La Espada, & when three hundred of the Comanches came to make the treaty, they were surrounded by the Spanish Soldiery & all killed.
