Many Mexicans skulls & bones lie in the Valley of the Salado x The hero of the Salado Col. Caldwell died a short time afterward and is buried at Gonzales.

 In Feby 1813 a desperate battle was fought here between the Mexicans assisted by Kemper & his brave associates & the Spanish Royalists to the discomforture of the latter.
