[crossed out: Texas Song]
The following was one of the [effusions] of the Evening. by Col ______
1. For a little while, adieu the smile, And the joys our home surrounding, And welcome now, with a soldier brow, The trump of the battle sounding! For the hand of War - would strike our "star"-- Away in its early beaming, But it long shall be ^o'er the Texans^ crossed out: to cheer the free, With a sacred glory streaming!
2. Then on! be brave! And if a grave Await our rights' contending, 'Tis sweet to fall, 'neath a battle pall, The home of the heart of the heart defending! For the hand of War. -- &c.
