Wednesday 19th. We made Antigua - passed between this island & Guadalupe - San Montserrat. 20th. ahead of Nevis, got sight of St. Kitts, St. Eustache & at 10 am St. Taba ? N by W. 8 miles - We paddled over Avis shoal in 6? shoals plenty of fish - All the islands seen as yet are have high rugged peaks & of a dark colour - particularly Nevis. The West indies lands are thrown as the Antilles & the Colombian archipelago they are divided into three parts by the Great, & little Antilles & the Bahama or ? isles & belonging to England, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden & the Republic of Hayti. 21. 6 am Saw St. Thomas'. In rounding 'Frenchmans Rock encountered a heavy Squall - 11 am cam to anchor 1 Danish & 2 Dutch Men of War in harbour. These good people very fond of saluting each other - a great expenditure of powder. A fleet of some 50 Merchants ships in port from all parts of the world, this being a ?right margin torn
