In ascending this mighty stream, the land is higher, plantation here & there seen, Steamers vessels begin to crowd & on approaching the Crescent city, its vast extent, the ? forest of masts, the life & bustle on the levee or embankment - its general history were subjects to ponder on.

  But to see New Orleans was interesting in another point of view, as having been & was even then the hot bed of all operations regarding Texas.  There much of the resources from every part of the Union were centralised. & on every emergency parties are always to be found ready to assist in widening the breach between Texas and Mexico.   Without the existence of this powerful city
