 At the period now under notice  now, under notice, there was no lack of  amusement, ?.   There was Horse racing, occasionally the ‘Players’ from New Orleans, a Travelling Circus, concerts such as they were, and dances denominated Balls and ‘Dutch Balls’  Fishing parties on the beach, these winding up with a “chowder feast’’ made generally of the fish caught but what may be mentioned more particularly was a “Fancy fair” the object being to obtain funds for the completion of the Episcopal church. But the Chief amusements are Hunting, fishing,  turtling expeditions and Boating.
    The war party or  outs, continued strong in their invective against the ^politic & pacific proceedings of Houston, ^who through good & bad report he was determined on pursuing.
