Sunday 5th - During the night rain - Mg cloudy breezes from S. Unpleasant weather - 70º Monday 6th. All night heavy rains from S. Mg Airs from N - cloudy cold day - ferry boats washed away - Flat boat with 200 Bales Cotton from LaGrange to Matagorda came down - River rising - Tuesday 7th - Heavy Norther all night & very cold below freezing pt - day fine - The Colorado has risen so much that it has run over into the E. bottom - Eg fine - Private - Mr Byrne ? Father has given him a league of land 3 miles from LaGrange fronting to River Colorado. A creek runs thru it & he thinks that farmers might find ? situations with new front of say 2 - 4 2100 acre farms - at 2X per acre - I have been over the land, theres plenty fine timbers & plenty prairie at back for range of cattle. Do Mr B ? & others have it in contemplation to cut a canal from La Mar to San Antonio, when peace is established there will be no difficulty about funds. The idea is to bring out Such laborers & allot them on the Canal portions of land, which when necessary
