The chief Speaker "Madwa as ong" is the Leader. and it is he who directs the ceremonies he gives out the number of songs that are to be sung or drummed each day and the number of pipes of tobacco to be smoked. (a pipe of tobacco in this case means. the passing of the pipe once round the floor allowing each to have a smoke.

   The leaders of the dance are two. a head. "Na wi quan a be."  "Middle feather" or as we know him later "Little Jake" the 'Bad medecine man."  He carried the "Manito oza ka own."  "Manito cane." and when he holds the cane aloft all must Join the dancelest he [?] the Dakota leader does not wear a [?]  Should he not be on the floor the second leader "Mi gi zi wi ge Jig." "Sky Eagle." leads then two or as it were the floor manager. they control the dance.  the young men are in addition under the command as it were of "Henry Lynch." an half breed and Wasi-in-ni-bi- "Bright Elm."  "Henry Lynch" also carries a cane which he says was given him by a brave. and he told him when he gave it to him that a dancer must never refuse to dance when he held up the cane.  If they do he goes into the center of the floor and makes a speech about it
   Kitchi a Ji ni mwa. wi go Jig ons."  "A Small noisy [?]" and Frank Eadolt. are the Runners who announces the dances and are the distributers of . the food at the feast each day of the dance a very important feature is the feast.  Each indian is provided with a dish of some kind of a receptacle in which to receive the food rice or other material that is doled out to him by the proper persons.  If they have no dish the kettle of food is set before them and they must eat it all.   When the food is brought in to the floor.   The drummers drum a song for the food during which the distribution. dance. about the kettles and taking out a pinch of the food in his finger and thumb offers it up to the Manito. and then put it in the ground or rubs. it on one of the four posts. in the centers.   After this ceremony of thanks he and his assistant distributed the food.   The Drummers. are presided over by a first and second head drummer.
