Mount Nebo 19th June 1829. Dear Sir; Your letter of the 5th unclear and the Order of same date, respecting the records of the Superior Court of Hancock County have been received. The order has been presented to M. Alfriend the present Clerk, and time allowed him, at his request for deliberation, and he has finally declined a compliance for reasons which he has given in writing dated the 13th unclear + which with the original order, I have now the pleasure to enclose for your perusal + consideration. After the most deliberate reflection + examination of the subject which I am capable of giving it, I am perfectly satisfied that M. Alfriend is wrong, his reasons futile, and not sustainable by any reasonable or legal argument, + has clearly subjected himself to an attachment for contempt; and was I not moved by other considerations than those arising from my conviction of the impropriety of his conduct, I would now move your honor for an attachment against him.
