When I woke up the train was stationary at Gunnison. Soon moved. At Salida took road for Leadville where we arrived 3 pm. Were met by the G.A.R. a big turn out. Took carriages for the mines. Did not go down. Nice supper at Continental? Hotel. [crossed out: Genl He]

Genl held informal reception after. I took a turn around town. Regular mining town - rough.

Left at 10pm Very well pleased.
