Mother. Bangor Sept. 27, 1854 Dunbarton Sept 30, 1854 Bangor Sept. 27th /54 My Dear Daughter I feel that I owe an apology for not writing to you - I find myself more clumsy &, stupid about writing as I grow old - & when I am home especially I contrive to put it off on to Lucy as much as I can - If I could write, and could express my thoughts and feelings with as much ease & facility as you and Lucy can - I could better tell you how much I love & care for you & the Dear little Mayo - And how ardently I long to become more acquainted But when I think of my absent ones and the Small prospect there is of my being with them much more and knowing their feelings their joys & their sorrows as I us'd to when they were all with me - My consolation is in the thought
