Dockham, which man, as a man, I do detest. Possibly unjustly, but I have a decided "antipathy" to him. Which would you join, if you were Charles, & intended to travel South and West, the S.O.T. or the I.O.O.F. He seems to grow more & more discontented lately. Is determined to go off South and West on an "exploring expedition." I wish he would select a proper 'help-meet' and settle down in his new house on his ample farm, contented with the good things he already possesses, instead of wandering to the ends of the earth, seeking rest & finding none, as he assuredly would.
Theodore Furber has bought a Possession 1/2 mile from Warren, and can have as much land as he wishes to purchase for 1.00 per Acre, when it comes into Market. He writes his health is better than for some years before. Mr. Hoxie's family all expect to start for Wisconsin in the Spring. I hope this region won't be entirely depopulated for the sake of populating the 'far west'! Charles had a Threshing Machine here last week (Marshall's from Bradford) commenced threshing Wednes. Morn, staid till Friday noon, and threshed 190 bushels of grain; 105 bu. Thursday. Worked best of any Machine we ever had here. No wheat Our wheat all stands in the fields yet! Charles was sick, he could get no help to cut it till very late. Then came wet weather damaging it, and finally a great freshet carrying away the bridge, so it could not be got home. No great loss, however, for C. said it would hardly have paid for Threshing at first. C. has got four "Chugs" to Winter, as he says to make a "Spee" in the Spring. One great black & white one he is going to carry to Bangor next
