the nights are very cold, & the middle of the torn page very warm, we here purchased a waggon for our sick? 28th travelled about 18 miles camped near a small stream. saw on the road wild Indigo & roses, saw a good many plover occasionally al Meadow Lark & flocks of black birds & other small birds & crows & Turkey Buzzards 29th started early passed over a higher country, saw occasionally a prairie hen or other birds and a party of men belonging to another train chased an antelope. they might as well have chased the wind. the antelope far off on the prairie seemed almost to fly. saw on our road today an abundance of beautiful flowers of different colors in many places the prairie resembled a vast flower garden composed of ^ phlox pink Lilly's etc etc we saw a plant resembling fox-glove. as also the everlasting dock & pig weed. camped on Cottonwood Creek, as we rode up to our camp an antelope was frightened from his rich feasting ground, some of the men called it a deer after our mules were unpacked, I gathered some flowers for pressing,, then saw the sick, they were doing well but very tired = we were all very tired, & had no water on the road travelled 30 miles = laid down on our pack saddles & slept till morning. 30th mules Backs very sore, we had a thunder shower & did not move camp, spent the time in arranging our
