Sunday Jany 27th

   Arose at the early hour of 9 O'clock - did not go to church in the morning. - in the afternoon we heard an excellent Sermon at one of the Presbyterian Churches. - the Pastor seemed to be trying to revive the good work in his church - took for his text "Adam where art thou" and applied it to all. - to the church he said where are the 75 members of this church? - we only get from 30 to 50 at our prayer meetings - to the balance he would say "Where art thou." - to the Sinner he would say thou art like a shipwreck. - the life Boat is sent to your rescue, - you still cling to that frail deck. - unless you give up and get on board the lifeboat you will certainly perish.  all he wanted he said was to impress on the minds of all present the necessity of asking themselves the question "Where are we" - to find out our true position and if not in the way of serving the Lord in carrying on his work here on the earth let us strive in the future to be faithful and zealous, that we reap the reward of well done in the sight of the Lord. - the singing by a choir of 8 members was most excellent  the best I have heard since I left Home - almost as good, even as at South Dedham. - after tea Morse says let us go again this evening but I thought once on a stormy Sunday would do. - besides I wished to have a little talk with Geo. P. Floyd who says he is going to open a Hotel in Quincy Illinois about 250 miles South West from Chicago. - I believe that this is the best paying business that can be done in the western country. the Hotels are full to
